If you are a Cobb County homeowner, make sure you get all the tax breaks you qualify for. Cobb County Tax Commissioner Gail Downing said, “Missing the filing deadline can mean another year’s wait.”

By law, you must apply for homestead exemptions by June 1. Your closing attorney does not apply for you. The Tax Commissioner’s Office mails homestead exemption applications to homeowners on record who purchased or transferred property the previous year. If you do not receive one by March, you should call (770) 528-8600. To qualify for an exemption, you must own the property on Jan. 1 of the year for which you are applying. All exemptions apply only to homestead property. Residents can apply for most exemptions by mail.
